Circuit Ricardo Tormo, the home of EuroNASCAR’s Valencia NASCAR Fest, has been impacted by a devastating flash flood that hit the Valencia region on 29 October 2024 and has killed at least 95 people, as reported by Reuters.
“At least 95 people have been killed in possibly the deadliest flooding to hit Spain in its modern history after torrential rain battered the eastern region of Valencia, sweeping away bridges and buildings, local authorities said on Wednesday,” reports Eva Manez and David Latona from Reuters.
“Meteorologists said a year’s worth of rain had fallen in eight hours in parts of Valencia on Tuesday, causing pile-ups on highways and submerging farmland in a region that produces two-thirds of the citrus fruit grown in Spain, a leading global exporter.”

While the actual Circuit Ricardo Tormo itself was spared of the worst, the track’s infrastructure was seriously damaged by the flash floods.
From videos that are shared on social media, the flash floods have completely destroyed the main entrance road to Circuit Ricardo Tormo as well as the venue’s the minimoto track.
Circuit Ricardo Tormo has released an official statement, stating that the track is currently assessing the full extent of the flash floods.

“The Circuit Ricardo Tormo has started the assessment works of the multiple damages suffered due to the DANA (Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos, the Spanish terminology for a phenomenon like this) that on Tuesday, October 29th devastated the interior of the province of Valencia,” announced the Spanish venue.
“Although after a first inspection the state of the track is optimal, most of the access and parking infrastructures have been seriously damaged and need urgent repairs in view of the celebration of the Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana, the last round of the motorcycling world championship on November 15, 16 and 17.”
“Water flow of more than 200 liters per square meter in less than twelve hours and especially the flow of mud water and other elements of the Sechera ravine and the Barranco del Poyo ravine, next to the Circuit have been the cause of the damage to the parking lots and the main access to the Cheste facilities.”
“About one hundred people have had to spend the night in different locations of the Cheste facilities. The gymnasium, offices and other places far away from the current have served as temporary shelter for operators for the assembly of the skids and grandstands, part of the logistics team of Formula E and maintenance, security and office staff of the Circuit Ricardo Tormo.”
The flash flood is set to impact both Formula E and MotoGP, who are due to host an event at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in the coming weeks.
Formula E is scheduled to host their pre-season test on 9-10 November, while MotoGP is scheduled to host their season finale on 15-17 November.
“The most important thing is that all the people who were at the Circuit are fine, everyone has been able to spend the night safely in the Circuit facilities” said Nicolás Collado, general manager of Circuit Ricardo Tormo.
“Now a damage assessment process begins that will tell us to what extent this DANA will affect the holding of our next events with full guarantees.”
Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with those that are affected by the flash floods in the Valencia region.
