Under the new format announced by the series, EuroNASCAR PRO drivers will face the challenge of single-car Qualifying in 2025.
NASCAR Euro Series will introduce a new Qualifying method for EuroNASCAR PRO. The series announced that all PRO Qualifying sessions in 2025 are held in a single-car format.
Single-car Qualifying was previously used for selected rounds, such as the 2024 NASCAR Oval GP at Venray. However, for 2025 onwards, this format will be used on all championship rounds. Superpole sessions, reintroduced in the 2022 season, were abolished once again to make room for the new format.
EuroNASCAR OPEN maintains the group format, but tweaks have been made as well. In 2025, OPEN Qualifying is shortened to 15 minutes – five minutes less than before.
According to EuroNASCAR, the Qualifying changes are made to “make the on-track action even more exciting.”
“The new era for NASCAR Euro Series continues to take shape with each passing day,” announced EuroNASCAR on 11 December 2024.
“After announcing the first technical development on the EuroNASCAR car with the Samsonas Motorsport 5-speed sequential gearbox, the series unveiled a new qualifying format that will make the on-track action even more exciting.”
“A new single-car qualifying session will set the grid for the PRO championship, while the OPEN championship will keep a traditional format with a 15-minute action packed session.”
PRO’s single-car Qualifying format follows the format that’s currently used in the United States. Each driver is given two laps to set the best lap time that they can achieve.
The ordering of drivers are determined by the inverted combined results from Friday Practice. This means that whoever is on top on Friday gets to enjoy maximum rubber advantage as the last car exiting the pits.
EuroNASCAR also swapped the order of Qualifying sessions. OPEN drivers will complete their session first, stacking more odds in favor of the leading PRO drivers.
These changes will make its first appearance during the 2025 Valencia NASCAR Fest at Circuit Ricardo Tormo. The event is scheduled for 12-13 April 2025.
Circuit Ricardo Tormo is currently in a race to bring the track back to a raceable state. The track was impacted by the recent flash floods that killed at least 230 people, according to official data from the Spanish government.
