Sven van Laere will be racing at the 24 Hours of Zolder with Belcar’s top team Belgium Racing and aims to contend for the overall victory in the event.

Sven van Laere will add another race to his 2024 racing calendar following the announcement of his return to the 24 Hours of Zolder, where the Belgian is set to join forces with top Belcar competitor Belgium Racing.

The news was reported by Autosportwereld on 11 August. The 50-year old will share driving duties with four other drivers, including Dylan Derdaele – Belgium Racing’s star driver and a former EuroNASCAR competitor himself.

“One of the regulars in the 24 Hours of Zolder is without a doubt the Antwerp veteran Sven van Laere,” reports Joost Curters from Autosportwereld.

“In this 46th edition of the Flemish endurance classic, he will step aboard the Porsche 992 GT3 Cup of Belgium Racing, which he will share with multiple winner Dylan Derdaele, Belcar winner Jan Lauryssen, promising Dutch talent Sacha Norden and the fast German Lars Kern.”

Van Laere is excited to make a bid for the overall victory with Belgium Racing, who currently leads the overall standings of the 2024 Belcar season.

“This season I wanted to step aboard a car that competes for the overall victory and that’s possible with the Porsche 992 GT3 Cup of Belgium Racing,” said van Laere to Autosportwereld.

“In the past I have won my class in this beautiful race several times and this year, on my 15th participation in this 24-hour race, I want to do better than my best result so far, a fourth place overall.”

Van Laere is currently in the middle of his second full-season campaign in EuroNASCAR, acting as the partner for defending EuroNASCAR PRO champion Gianmarco Ercoli in CAAL Racing’s flagship No. 54 Chevrolet Camaro.

While he missed the oval race at Venray, the Belgian has proved to be a consistent and safe driver with six finishes in six races. Two 12th place finishes were his best finish of the year so far, which he achieved at Vallelunga and Brands Hatch.

Van Laere is expected to make his EuroNASCAR return in the NASCAR GP Czech Republic at Autodrom Most, held just one week after the 24 Hours of Zolder.
