NASCAR Whelen Euro Series has signed a new Technical Partner agreement with VP Racing Fuels to supply the series with sustainable fuels as the series pledges to become fossil fuel free by 2025 and support the development of sustainable fuels in the long term.

On 3 May 2022, NASCAR Whelen Euro Series officially announced that they have signed an agreement with Texas-based petroleum company VP Racing Fuels to become EuroNASCAR’s newest Technical Partner and new exclusive fuel supplier.

VP Racing Fuels, founded in 1975 by American racer Steve Burns following the success of his self-developed “C12™” fuel mixture in local tracks at Texas, is no stranger to racing themselves as they provided the official racing fuel for many championships in the world, including the Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) series.

“VP Racing Fuels is excited to join the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series as Technical Partner and exclusive supplier of racing fuel, providing VP’s newly developed N20 Race Fuel,” said Alexej Borscs, Director of Sales and Operations Europe for VP, on the official announcement. “N20 Race Fuel is the first fuel developed in collaboration with the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and the first such effort for VP in Europe.”

The N20 Race Fuel is an unleaded gasoline fuel developed by a joint effort between EuroNASCAR and VP Racing Fuels that is compliant to both FIA Appendix J and European Union’s EN228 E10 road fuel regulations.

The N20 is developed with a requirement to have a “drop-in” fuel replacement that required little – if any – adjustment to engine calibrations and as little compatibility issues as possible for road cars eligible for E10 fuels. The result of this is that the N20 Race Fuel can be filled into any modern European gasoline-powered road car without any long-term issues.

In a first for the series, the N20 Race Fuel that will be used by every single team this year will contain 20% sustainable components as the series begins its first step on achieving its sustainability roadmap program.

“N20 will provide series racers with an innovative race fuel formulation, incorporating 20% of 2nd generation sustainable components,” added Borscs. “These components not only reduce the need for fossil sources and help cut the net greenhouse gas emissions but also come from agricultural waste, a feedstock that does not compete with the food supply chain, bringing both innovation and sustainability to the product. This is an exciting time for both organizations, and we look forward to this new opportunity together.”

With the historic move to sustainable fuel, EuroNASCAR also announced that series organizers Team FJ have pledged to become a fossil fuel free racing championship by the 2025 season.

“The sustainable development strategy is a key part of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, starting with our race cars built without electronic and complex material making them vastly recyclable. We are very happy to launch this technical partnership with VP Racing Fuels which is the first step of our roadmap to a 100% road standards fossil free fuel,” said EuroNASCAR President, CEO, and founder Jerome Galpin.

“Our goal is to contribute to the development of the petroleum free fuels of the future, not only for racing but for everyday use. This is why our fuel development will be based on the RON 98 standard fuel pump specifications. Maybe in some years people will fill their road cars with a fuel the EuroNASCAR contributed to develop, and there is no better way for racing to support ecology and sustainable development.”
