
Endurance racing legend Lucas Luhr will compete in stock car racing for the first time in his career after the debuting Racingfuel Motorsport team announced that they have signed the services of the 42-year old German for this year’s EuroNASCAR PRO campaign.
NASCAR Whelen Euro Series announced that the debuting Racingfuel Motorsport team have signed endurance racing legend Lucas Luhr as one of the team’s EuroNASCAR PRO drivers for the upcoming 2022 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season.
“Racingfuel Motorsport signed German top driver Lucas Luhr from Mülheim-Kärlich,” announced the series yesterday. “The 42-year-old endurance star will make his NASCAR Whelen Euro Series debut at the wheel of the #58 Chevrolet Camaro and compete in EuroNASCAR PRO.”
Lucas Luhr’s participation in the Euro Series is scheduled to be his first participation in motorsport since 2019 and prior to that Luhr has achieved plenty of accolades in sportscar and endurance racing.

Fast on both the Prototypes and the Grand Tourers, Luhr won the American Le Mans Series championship for a record seven times – three each in the LMP1 and GT classes and once in the LMP2 class. Luhr also won both the FIA GT Championship and its successor series FIA GT1 World Championship, winning on the N-GT class in the former and the GT1 class in the latter.
Luhr scored class victories in the three biggest endurance races in the world – 24 Hours of Le Mans, 12 Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Daytona. He also scored class wins in both Spa 24 Hours and Petit Le Mans as well as two outright wins in the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
Luhr’s arrival to Racingfuel is expected to give the debutant team a lead driver that will help the team develop themselves for the upcoming 2022 season.

“I’m really looking forward to joining the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and providing my support to build and develop the Racingfuel Motorsport team,” said Luhr to euronascar.com.
Luhr’s announcement also revealed that Christoph Lenz, who was initially signed by the Racingfuel team to compete in EuroNASCAR PRO with the No. 94 team, will now move down to the EuroNASCAR 2 to compete as Luhr’s running-mate on the No. 58 Camaro.
It also revealed that Roger Mettler, a Porsche Carrera Cup competitor, will also enter the championship as one of Racingfuel’s drivers in 2022. Mettler is set to make his Euro Series debut with the No. 94 Camaro in EuroNASCAR 2 whilst also declaring intentions to compete for both the Rookie and Legend Trophy honors.
