Anthony Kumpen has confirmed plans for an EuroNASCAR return at Zolder where he’s set to race the PK Carsport No. 66 Chevrolet alongside Thomas Dombrowski.
Anthony Kumpen has finally found time to make his return behind the wheel of an EuroNASCAR stock car. The Belgian will be back for his home race at Circuit Zolder, where he’s set to join forces with Thomas Dombrowski in the second PK Carsport entry.
Interestingly for Kumpen and Dombrowski, the Chevrolet Camaro that they’re going to have at Zolder will carry No. 66 – the car number that Dombrowski used with Race Planet Team Bleekemolen.
The news doesn’t mean that the Dutch team will be one car short at Zolder, however, as EuroNASCAR revealed that “Team Bleekemolen will not reduce the number of cars for the last race of the season, with breaking news to be announced soon.”
Kumpen, a former two-time EuroNASCAR champion, was unable to compete full-time in 2024 so that he can keep a better eye on both PK Carsport and the racing career of his son Henri-Constant.
However, he did tease a late-season appearance back in March and the stage for Kumpen’s return was made when he was spotted testing PK Carsport’s second car at Zolder on 26 September 2024.
“I’m back on track for Zolder, but it won’t be an easy task as I haven’t been in a race car for almost a year,” said Kumpen to euronascar.com.
“The last race I drove was the EuroNASCAR Finals at Zolder in 2023. Since then I have been very busy with my racing team and my son’s karting career. I spend more than 200 days a year at the track.”
“It will be a bit strange to be back in the car with so little preparation. As a Belgian and an ambassador for the Circuit Zolder, it’s important to be here for the sponsors who support my team and my son’s racing career. But it’s still a bit of a gamble for me.”
“I’m still looking forward to it. We will go there with an open mind and see how it goes. We are happy to be back because I love NASCAR and Circuit Zolder.”
The Frenchman hopes that he can learn a lot from not only Kumpen, but also PK Carsport – a team that dominated the EuroNASCAR PRO landscape with Vittorio Ghirelli in 2024.
“I’m happy to be racing alongside Anthony Kumpen, a talented and experienced driver,” said Dombrowski, currently eighth in the EuroNASCAR 2 standings.
“This is a great opportunity for me and I can learn a lot. No matter what happens, I am determined to finish the season on a high note.”
