Despite scoring two top-5 finishes in Italy, Tobias Dauenhauer is disappointed that he wasn’t able to finish on the podium due to an on-track incident with Lucas Lasserre.

Tobias Dauenhauer performed well in the American Festival of Rome with two top-5 finishes to showcase, but the German let out some of his frustration towards Lucas Lasserre due to the contact that both drivers had in Race 1.

This incident happened during the Full Course Yellow restart that took place on lap 4. At the time, Dauenhauer was in third and managed to get the jump on Paul Jouffreau.

However, issues with the countdown notification meant that they were being caught by the drivers behind, who all got the notification before Dauenhauer did.

Gianmarco Ercoli managed to get by cleanly, but Lasserre’s attempt did not go smoothly. The Frenchman made contact with Dauenhauer and sent him to the sausage kerbs, costing the Bremotion driver more than a few positions.

He eventually crossed the line in seventh, but penalties for other drivers – including Lasserre – promoted him to fourth. Nevertheless, Dauenhauer branded the contact as an “unfair move” on Lasserre’s behalf and lamented at the podium prospect that he had missed due to the incident.

“This race was completely crazy,” said Dauenhauer to Andre Wiegold after the race. “We have Full Course Yellow and after FCY, the green flags came out and I think I had a good start.”

“I was on the side of Jouffreau, already in P2 and then the other guys behind me accelerated way earlier. Lucas then pushed me completely out of the track. He left me no space, that was an unfair move.”

“I think we could have a good race for all the fans with the overtakes, but this is just unfair. Sorry to all the fans, I think we could have had a better race but after this my car was damaged because I ran over the bumps.”

Bremotion’s team boss Patrick Brenndörfer was more positive on the outlook. Despite not scoring an overall podium finish, he gave his praises towards Dauenhauer, Dominique Schaak and Julien Rehberg for their good performance in Italy.

“That was a good weekend in Italy, even though we missed out on the really big top results,” said Brenndörfer in Bremotion’s post-race press release

“All the drivers put in a strong performance and scored important points for the overall standings. Tobias unfortunately had some bad luck in the first race, otherwise another podium finish would have been certain.”

“Dominique came very close to his first top-10 finish and gained important experience, while Julien surprised us once again. At 18, he is one of the top talents on the grid and we are optimistic that it won’t be long before he gets his first win.”
