Profile:
The son of Markku Tuomaala, founder of Finnish department store giant Puuilo and premises manager for Finnish burger chain Barot’s, Henri Tuomaala has been attracted to the sensational world of motorsport ever since he was a kid. His first motorsport experience came when he made his karting debut at the age of six and just six years later, a young Henri has already made his first races in the Finnish junior car racing scene.
After several more years of karting competition, Tuomaala transitioned to car racing full-time in 2008 where he began to compete in Formula Renault with his family-owned team Iceboys. Two years later, Tuomaala moved to the Finnish Legends Trophy championship where he began to establish himself as one of Finland’s top legends car drivers, a success that culminated in Tuomaala winning the Legends Trophy title in 2015.
His success in legend cars prompted Tuomaala to move up to the V8 Thunder Cars and he proved himself to be just as successful there. Tuomaala’s suitability with V8 powered, rear wheel drive race cars naturally made him attracted to the world of NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and soon enough, he found himself with a chance to compete with Alex Caffi Motorsport for the final two rounds of the 2018 season.
A year later, Tuomaala made his full-season debut with Memphis Racing as part of the first all-Scandinavian team and driver combination in EuroNASCAR history. Tuomaala stands out as one of the series’ top amateur drivers and his performances were rewarded with him becoming the Challenger Trophy champion in his debut campaign.
COVID-19 pandemic forced Tuomaala to stay in Finland for 2020, but he returned in 2021 with a joint collaboration between Iceboys and DF1 Racing. Tuomaala was again crowned as the Challenger Trophy champion that year and he successfully defended the Challenger Trophy honors in 2022, racing Team Bleekemolen’s No. 23 Barot’s Ford.
