Profile:
Alon Day is perhaps the greatest driver to have competed in NASCAR Whelen Euro Series.
Day made his debut in 2015 with CAAL Racing and while his debut season started off slow, he quickly rose to prominence after three wins in the last four races of that year allowed him to claim 2nd place in the standings. Day again scored three wins in the following year, but three finishes outside of the Top-10 relegated him to 3rd in the standings that year.
It was in 2017 that Day’s Euro Series dynasty truly began. Four wins, eight podiums and only one finish outside of the Top-5 allowed Day to seal his first title in 2017 and he followed it up with a successful title defense in 2018 after winning 7 races, tying the record for the most wins in a single season in the top class.
2019 was a down year for the Israeli as three retirements cost him a shot at a three-peat, but he bounced back in 2020 after a move to PK Carsport. Despite what he described as the “toughest year in his life” after he was forced to temporarily live in Belgium due to the rise of the pandemic, Day scored four wins, five consecutive poles and six consecutive fastest laps to secure his third Euro Series title at Valencia. In the process he also broke Ander Vilariño’s record for the most wins in the Euro Series, which he achieved in the second race at Valencia.
PK Carsport’s withdrawal from 2021 allowed Day to reunite with CAAL for one season, scoring three more wins before he returned to PK when the Belgian team returned to the sport in 2022.
Statistically, Day is the greatest Euro Series driver in history. He has scored more wins, more pole positions, more fastest laps, and more podiums than any other driver and is currently tied with Vilariño for the most titles in EuroNASCAR history. Day is only 30 years old at the start of the 2022 season, which means that he has the potential to extend his record further by the time he retires in the future.
Day is also the first Israeli and Euro Series driver to compete in all three of NASCAR’s major touring series – the NASCAR Cup Series, the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. His first outing at the States at Mid-Ohio in 2016 proved to be a very notable one as he was able to bring MBM Motorsports’ “Zombie Dodge” to the Top-10 for most of the race in the wet conditions, a performance that earned praise from many in the American NASCAR paddock.
