Profile:
Alex Caffi was mostly known in the racing community as the ex-Formula One driver who drove for Osella, BMS Scuderia Italia, Arrows – both under the original Arrows and Footwork Arrows banner, and Andrea Moda in his Formula One career. Initially showing promise in his Osella and BMS-Dallara days, his Formula One career would fizzle out with a succession of DNQs in the highly uncompetitive Footwork team in 1991 and two more attempts with the infamous Andrea Moda team in 1992 would close out his Formula One career.
Caffi has maintained a presence in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series ever since he and his team Alex Caffi Motorsport made their debut in the series at Adria in 2016. Caffi occasionally do owner-driver duties when the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series visits Italy and he will do the same again this year as he enters the Franciacorta round in his team’s No. 1 La Leonessa Ford Mustang in the Elite 1 class, competing with a Monegasque racing license instead of an Italian one.
