V8 Thunder Cars has officially announced the cancellation of their planned Nordic Championship event due to a lack of interest from competitors.
V8 Thunder Cars (V8TC) will not go ahead with the idea of hosting a Nordic Championship event in the 2025 season. The series officially announced on 25 March that they will be cancelling the Nordic Championship because there’s “too few registered participants”.
“V8 Thunder Cars cancels the Nordic Championship 2025,” announced V8TC. “The competition was originally scheduled to be held at the DriveCenter Arena in Fällfors on June 13-14.”
“However, despite an increasing number of participants in the National Championship, the competition had to be canceled due to too few registered participants for the competition in Fällfors.”
V8TC previously announced plans to host the Nordic Championship in December last year. The idea is to bring competitors from Sweden and its neighboring countries together to promote the sport in the Scandinavian region.
Unfortunately, interest from the event proved to be low in part due to the late announcement. Anders Conradzon, the boss of V8TC, acknowledged the issues that V8TC faces in the official press release.
“This competition went beyond our regular calendar and we received far too few entries from both Swedish and Finnish participants,” said Conradzon.
“We probably started the work a little late as all the calendars were already set for the national championships in Sweden and Finland. This made it difficult for the participants to find both time and budget to squeeze an extra competition into the calendar.”
Despite this setback, Conradzon is happy that V8 Thunder Cars as a whole is gaining steam across the region and wants to make the Nordic Championship into fruition in 2026.
“There is no shortage of participants and teams in either Sweden or Finland,” adds Conradzon. “In both countries, the series have experienced strong growth and recovery in recent years.”
“In this year’s Swedish National Championship, twenty cars are expected to be on the starting line when the season premiere is held in Anderstorp in mid-May.”
“It is very gratifying, which of course contributes to the fact that we see a strong basis for creating a Nordic championship that tours around the Nordic region.”
“We will soon start work for 2026 and then we will be able to synchronize the calendars between Sweden and Finland better so that we can put together a large starting field worthy of a Nordic Championship.”
