Reza Sardeha became the new leading contender for the EuroNASCAR Club Challenge title after he took victory at Oschersleben ahead of Dani Briz and Federico Monti.

Reza Sardeha placed himself as the favorites to win the EuroNASCAR Club Challenge title after the Iranian-born Dutchman secured a back-to-back victory in the regularity based division during the Friday morning sessions of NASCAR GP Germany.

Sardeha was initially on the backfoot after he finished third in the first session behind SpeedHouse Racing’s Dani Briz and Academy Motorsport’s Federico Monti, but he then won the second session.

With Briz only fourth and Monti sixth, it was enough for Sardeha to come home first in the combined classifications. All three drivers got bonus points for choosing the faster reference time in both sessions.

“It feels good, I can’t complain about it!” said Sardeha at the podium ceremony. “It was tough because in the first session I wasn’t able to get the lap times we needed.”

“I only had one good reference time there, so in the second session the objective was to get four good lap times. We accomplished that halfway through, so we were considering pushing a little bit but we decided to just keep it normal as I can go off track if I get a little too excited.”

Briz’s teammate Andreas Kuchelbacher and Kelvin Hassell completed the top-5 ahead of Edouard Fatio and Gordon Barnes, the latter two being held back by gearbox issues.

Barnes’ problems meant that Sardeha took the outright lead in the championship. With 364 points, the Team Bleekemolen driver has a 18 point lead to Monti and a 30 point one from Kuchelbacher.

Edouard Fatio was 39 points behind in fourth with Barnes an additional point behind in fifth. Kelvin Hassell is sixth with 318 points while Briz is seventh with 282 points.

Bruno Costa, who did not compete this weekend, was relegated to eighth and is practically out of the contention as he is 157 points behind Sardeha with only two sessions to go at Zolder.
