Jack Davidson speaks to Andre Wiegold on Lux Motorsport’s preparation for the 2024 EuroNASCAR season and goals for the Valencia round in the latest edition of ‘Pit Reporters’.
With less than two weeks before the 2024 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season starts at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, teams and drivers are currently hard at work to prepare themselves for the new season.
Among them is Jack Davidson and his family-owned team Lux Motorsport, who spoke to EuroNASCAR’s Andre Wiegold in the latest edition of ‘Pit Reporters’ to discuss Lux’s preparation for their maiden EuroNASCAR campaign.

“Obviously, we run our own team this year,” said Davidson on this topic. “The race team that we ran is the same team over here [in Mini Challenge UK].”
“We had a big articulated truck, but unfortunately it’s too big for the European roads, so we had to sell that and then try and get another truck.”
“Then it turns out we had another truck as well, but that one’s also too big so we had to cut the roof and drop it a wee bit. It’s a lot of stuff like that, trying to get stuff ready.”
“But, car prep wise, it’s been good. We were out in Knockhill a couple of weeks ago, shakedown in the car and then brought it back, stripped it down again and put it all back together.”

Davidson also opens up on why he decided to field his own team for the 2024 season. The Scotsman revealed that he came close to resigning with Marko Stipp Motorsport when he and his mom had “a change of heart”.
“We were actually in the process of going back and then me and my mom kind of had a bit of a change of heart,” reveals Davidson.
“We’re just like ‘You know what, we’ve managed to run seven cars at once in the UK’, so I went to Simon [Guest, Lux’s crew chief] and said ‘What do you think? Could we run our own team if we get some of the old gang back together?’”

Davidson, who finished seventh in the EuroNASCAR 2 standings last year with two top-5’s and the overall Rookie Trophy win, also notes that preparing the EuroNASCAR car has been easier for the mechanics at Lux.
“He seemed pretty keen that he could do it and now I’m looking forward to it,” adds the Scotsman. “We used to run seven cars back over here when we were in the Mini’s, so I’m sure Simon’s pretty happy that we’re going to one car!”
“But no, it’s actually probably easier to work on a NASCAR car because it’s so old school. There’s not really any electronics or anything like that. Everything’s pretty back to basics really. He loves it, so it’s pretty good.”

As previously revealed during Lux Motorsport’s entry announcement, Davidson will be aiming for the overall championship in his sophomore year, but he understands that the title fight will not be won at Valencia and wants to start his season with a strong result.
“For the first two races, I think it’s just more trying to pick up as many points as I can,” sums Davidson on his goal for Valencia. “I’m obviously aiming for the top step of the championship this year, but it is a hard championship.”
“The drivers in it are really good, so I think as long as I can gather points throughout the season and have as little DNF’s as I can, then we should be looking okay because the championship’s not won in a race weekend.”
