Martin Doubek swept the EuroNASCAR OPEN races at American SpeedFest thanks to a daring three-wide pass on both Sandro Tavartkiladze and Raphael Lessard.
Martin Doubek confirmed his sweep in the 2026 American SpeedFest with one of the best overtakes in the history of the NASCAR Euro Series OPEN championship.
The Czech driver went three-wide on both Sandro Tavartkiladze and Raphaël Lessard on lap 20 of the Sunday EuroNASCAR OPEN race to secure his sensational double victory at Brands Hatch.
Doubek admitted that he anticipated the pass coming and waited until Tavartkiladze and Lessard tripped each other before he made the race-winning overtake.
“I knew that the moment would happen when I saw the drivers in front of me bunched up, so I had to wait for a mistake and then it was my time,” said Doubek in Victory Lane.
“It was a nice feeling and then I built a three second gap to the drivers behind. I have no words now, the excitement will come later!”
Tavartkiladze led the majority of the race and created an early gap after going up from fourth to first in the opening lap. Unfortunately, the Georgian driver overheated his front tires and had to work overtime to keep his lead for as long as possible.
In the end, the Georgian was not able to hold on. Doubek was joined in the podium by Lessard and Thomas Dombrowski with Tavartkiladze barely scraping into a fourth place finish.
Lessard was almost unable to start the race from pole position after Gianmarco Ercoli’s engine troubles in the preceding EuroNASCAR V8GP race.
Alumitec Racing managed to send his car out with minutes to spare, having worked overtime to swap its engines during the downtime between the races.
More crucially, this engine change allowed Lessard to keep his runner-up finish following Alumitec’s three-race disqualification for “refusal of inspections” to the old engine unit.
Gil Linster narrowly beat Thomas Toffel to gain one more point on the Swiss driver, who provisionally maintained his championship lead by a very slim margin.
Valentino Gambarotto and Jens Beeusaert joined Tavartkiladze in the Master Trophy podium by finishing seventh and eighth respectively. Beeusaert also managed to set the fastest lap of the race with a time of 49.089 seconds.
Claudio Remigio Cappelli and Robin Bleekemolen completed the top-10 to clinch the wins in Legend and Lady Trophies respectively.
Robin’s pace was greatly impressive as she finished only 17 seconds behind Doubek on her first dry race. This speed solidified the potential that Robin had, showing the world that a third generation Bleekemolen is prepared for great things in the horizon.
The race only saw one retirement from Vladimiros Tziortzis, whose race ended after only six laps due to mechanical issues in his SpeedHouse machine.
