Thomas Krasonis enters the 2025 Finals as the favorite to win the EuroNASCAR OPEN title, but drivers like Martin Doubek and Bruno Mulders will not give up their chance.

The 2025 NASCAR Euro Series Finals at Circuit Zolder presents a golden opportunity for EuroNASCAR OPEN championship leader Thomas Krasonis.

With a healthy 35 point lead over his closest competitor Martin Doubek, Krasonis is only two races away from being crowned as the first Greek NASCAR champion.

A move to PK Carsport in the off-season has given Krasonis a chance to mount his first proper championship campaign in the series. The six-year veteran immediately made his intention known when he dominated the opening race at Valencia.

Despite this strong start, the road going to Zolder was tricky. A first lap contact in the second Valencia race and a mechanical retirement at Brands Hatch left Krasonis in fifth place at the summer break – 16 points behind Melvin de Groot.

Krasonis then rejuvenated himself once the grid reconvened at Autodrom Most. He swept the weekend in Czechia, followed by two fantastic battles with Bruno Mulders in Germany.

Krasonis might’ve lost one of the battles with Mulders in Oschersleben, but he had collected a total of 230 points out of a maximum 240 points that were on offer in the previous two rounds.

This massive points haul allowed the Greek to open up a big advantage to Doubek and the rest of the grid. With only two races remaining, all that’s left for Krasonis is to seal the deal at PK Carsport’s home race.

“I’m very satisfied with the results of the [Germany] weekend since I managed to score a win and a P2!” said Krasonis after the Oschersleben weekend.

“With these results, I managed to build a 35 points gap in the championship standings where I am currently first. I wanted a win in Germany and I deserved it on Saturday, but as I said after Saturday’s race, Bruno [Mulders] raced exceptionally well.”

“I tried to pressure Bruno to push him into making a mistake, but when Patrick [Schober] approached me with the intention of passing us both, I decided I had to make my move immediately. And that’s what I did. Next stop is the championship Finals in Circuit Zolder!”

Doubek also had a rocky road heading to the Finals. Like Krasonis, the reigning champion also had two retirements early on: A suspension failure in the Valencia opener and running out of fuel at Vallelunga following a first-lap incident that caused a fuel over consumption.

Three wins in 2025 proved the Czech’s status as one of the top drivers in the division. However, a challenging round in Germany – where he finished seventh in both races – cost Doubek a lot of points to Krasonis.

Doubek concedes that he might lose the title at Zolder, but the 30-year old will keep fighting for the best possible results to close out the season.

“We ended the weekend well,” said Doubek during the Oschersleben weekend. “There’s still a chance and I’m really fast at Zolder, so I think we can find some points there. Maybe I won’t win the third title, but we’ll see.”

Following behind the two main protagonists are the three drivers contesting the newly introduced Master Trophy. Bruno Mulders, Thomas Dombrowski and Sandro Tavartkiladze are all only separated by 13 points heading to the Finals at Zolder.

Mulders in particular made headlines with his rapid adaptation to the EuroNASCAR stock cars. In his first year of car racing, Mulders has not only scored an EuroNASCAR OPEN victory, but also challenged the best of Europe’s stock car racing in EuroNASCAR PRO.

Numerous incidents have severely impacted Mulders’ hopes in the overall championship. A 48 point deficit to Krasonis will be hard to catch, but the 17-year old is ready to close out his season on a high note.

Dombrowski and Tavartkiladze maintain a slim chance for the title thanks to their consistency. Both drivers have finished all 10 races in 2025 so far, having yet to finish outside of the top-10.

They have also claimed their first podium finishes during this season. Dombrowski got his through back-to-back podiums in Vallelunga, while Tavartkiladze delivered Georgia’s first NASCAR podium with a third place result in Most.

A little bit behind the duo is Melvin de Groot, who has seen his championship hopes evaporate in the Playoffs.

De Groot was leading the championship following his maiden victory in Brands Hatch, but two finishes outside of the top-10 at Oschersleben have all but eliminated the Dutchman from the  overall championship.

With a 65 points deficit to Krasonis, de Groot is expected to shift his focus to Legend Trophy. He maintained a 25-point lead to Claudio Remigio Cappelli, who can play spoilers in Zolder as he swept the 2024 Finals.

However, if there are shenanigans that cost the top drivers a lot of points in Zolder, then de Groot will have a chance to place his No. 69 Team Bleekemolen Toyota for a late surge at the title.
