Sixteen drivers have announced their plans to compete in the 2026 V8 Thunder Cars season, with more to come according to series boss Andres Conradzon.

Sweden’s high octane touring car series V8 Thunder Cars continues its preparation for their 2026 season, which will start on 8-9 May with the season opener at Anderstorp.

The high interest from drivers and teams to compete in V8TC continues to be at a high, with 16 drivers having already announced their spots in the 2026 grid as of 28 January 2026.

V8TC’s silly season kicked off on 4 November 2025, when Falkenbergs native Samuel Johansson announced his plans to join the championship with his self-run No. 86 Ford Mustang.

A regular in Falkenbergs’ annual racing season, Johansson will give V8TC a try after a successful stint in the Swedish BMW Cup and Modsport 1 championships.

“I love V8s and big cars, it’s something I enjoy,” said Samuel to V8 Thunder Cars. “I’ve always looked at V8 Thunder Cars, or Camaro Cup as it was called when I was little and was never interested in any other classes in Sweden.”

“It will be an honor to represent Falkenbergs Motorklubb in the Västkustloppet. The club does a fantastic job with the entire facility and all its events, with the Västkustloppet being the highlight for all racing fans.”

Johansson’s announcement was held during the time V8TC opened their preliminary registrations. Closed in December 2025, anyone who registered during this period will receive discounts for their 2026 season entry fee.

Newly crowned champion Tommie Eliasson was among those who took advantage of this. Tommie confirmed his spot on the grid on 17 December 2025 as one of the 15 drivers that V8TC announced for their preliminary Entry List.

Tommie’s title rivals Dennis Byqvist and Charbel Jomha also registered their entries during this period, as did Junior Trophy contenders Linus Holgersson and Isac Aronsson.

Their entries are complemented by the entries of series veterans Robert Möller, Johan Sommevie, the Olsson’s Ronny and Simon, Håkan Sjöman, 2025 newcomers Viktor Karlsson and Daniel Wigren, part-timer Alexander Andersson and rising young talent Tino Lundström.

The latest addition as of the writing of this article is Julia Eliasson. Julia, the sole female driver in the current V8TC grid, announced her return on 26 January 2026.

Series boss Anders Conradzon expects more entries to be announced in the future, with him “convinced” that a full season field of 20 cars is a possibility.

“It is fantastic that we have already received so many registrations,” said Anders Conradzon in V8TC’s official website.

“There are another ten participants working to get to the start. Some of them may not succeed, but there are several names that we are already sure will register.”

“It was a very good result as two of the biggest names in the pit, Andreas Nilsson and Stein Frederic Akre, are on a sabbatical.”

“The fact that the starting field is still so large and held such a high standard shows that we are also having a good regrowth. For next year’s season, I am convinced that the starting field will be around twenty cars on average per race.”
