Profile:

Marconi Abreu was one of the many young Brazilians who watched Ayrton Senna rose to the top of Formula One in the late 80’s. His admiration for Senna ignited his passion in motorsport, leading him to turn his first racing laps at a go-kart track in Betim at the age of 10.

Originally he did racing as a hobby, but in the 2000’s Abreu began to seriously pursue a career in motorsport. He passed the professional school at Interlagos with flying colors and found opportunities to race at the national level.

In 2007, Abreu started a two-year trip to the United States to gain experience at an international level. He returned to Brazil in 2009 and stayed there for the next few years before he took his career to the next level in 2016.

That year, he signed up with RDV Competition to race in the NASCAR Euro Series. Racing in both classes, Abreu quickly adapted to the NASCAR stock cars. He narrowly lost the Challenger Trophy battle to fellow debutant Dario Caso by 10 points. In addition, a solid year in EuroNASCAR OPEN – then Elite 2 – resulted in a top-10 overall standings finish for the Brazilians.

Abreu struck back in 2017 with a really strong season. In EuroNASCAR PRO, he beat Caso by 24 points to take the overall Challenger Trophy victory. He also scored an overall EuroNASCAR OPEN podium at Venray, finishing behind fellow countryman Felipe Rabello. Abreu ended his OPEN campaign in fifth, showcasing his rapid adaptation in the sport.

In 2018, the Brazilian took the chance to become the top driver for MRT Nocentini. The season started promisingly, but just a week before the American SpeedFest VI, the unthinkable happened.

Abreu announced that he was diagnosed with cancer on 3 June 2018, effectively ending his 2018 season early. He made a full recovery by the end of the year, but Abreu chose to stay in Brazil. Three years later, the Brazilian made the decision to retire from the sport that he loved.

Abreu has mostly remained silent in his retirement years, but he continues to live happily with his family. He also still maintains his close association with Kartódromo RBC Racing, the primary backers of his EuroNASCAR journey.
