Profile:
Giovanni Altoè is the first of the three Altoè’s to start a motorsport career in the 2010’s. Altoè made his car racing debut in 2014, joining Target Racing in the Italian F4 Championship.
Things did not start on a promising note, however. Altoè’s results were sub-par, only scoring 1 point and being outclassed by almost everyone else. Equipment was not something to blame either: Teammate Mattia Drudi was second in the championship, while Mahaveer Raghunathan scored some consistent point finishes late in the season.
Altoè quickly realized that open wheel racing was not for him. With EuroNASCAR slowly gaining in stature in Italy, he set his sights to try out this new category in 2015.
Altoè got his opportunity when he joined Onofrio Veneziani’s Double T Racing for his home round in Italy. Racing the No. 6 Chevrolet SS, he quickly took a liking to the EuroNASCAR stock car. This allowed Altoe to compete for top-10 positions, although he came up short with an 11th and 14th place finishes.
Altoè had plans to make a return in the season finale at Zolder, but it fell through. The young Italian had to wait until the following year to get another chance.
In 2016, Altoè was called up by Veneziani to join Double T for the race at Adria. Altoè handled the new generation of EuroNASCAR cars well and found himself as a top-10 contender once again. However, reliability issues prevented him from scoring good results.
Altoè moved to touring cars in 2017 and ran a strong campaign in Campionato Italiano Turismo TCS. He finished second overall, earning an invitation for TCR Trophy Europe at Adria where he got the chance to race alongside his younger brother Giacomo.
Altoè stayed in touring cars for the next two years, finding home in TCR Italy’s new category for DSG transmission machinery. The Italian won back-to-back championships in the DSG category in 2018 and 2019. His triumph in 2019 was especially special as he won the title alongside his nephew Alessandro.
After a move to Porsche Carrera Cup Italy in 2020, Altoè quietly stepped out from motorsport. Such was the quietness of Giovanni’s “retirement” that several results that Giacomo Altoe achieved in 2021 and 2022 were erroneously recorded to Giovanni in DriverDB.
The only recorded racing activity for Giovanni Altoè in recent years were through his involvement in Passione Ferrari Club Challenge and helping Fabio Antonello on testing TCR DSG cars, both taking place in 2024.
