Yesterday, it was officially announced that Cypriot driver Vladimiros Tziortzis will be joining the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series as the EuroNASCAR 2 driver of Alex Caffi Motorsport’s No. 1 Ford Mustang team, joining Alessio Bacci as drivers for Alex Caffi Motorsport in the EN2 class.
Tziortzis, the first Cypriot driver to take part in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, have previously taken part in first December EuroNASCAR Drivers Recruitment Program Test Day and the EuroNASCAR Esports Series prior to yesterday’s announcement.
“It is a great challenge for me and I am looking forward to the first race of the season,” said Tziortzis to euronascar.com. “Cyprus will be represented for the first time in the NWES and this makes me extremely proud.”
Prior to joining the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, Tziortzis won the Pancyprian Karting Championship seven times before he stepped up to Formula 4, where scored 3 podium finish in his debut SMP F4 Championship season in 2017. A tough Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup campaign would follow before he tested an EuroNASCAR stock car with his participation in the Drivers Recruitment Program last December.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series championship for trusting me. I’m aiming at stable and strong performances throughout the year. It’s something that is considered to be very important in a championship which includes many battles, so I can collect as many points as possible from each round,” said the 22-year old Nicosia-born driver.
Remedica, Cyprus’ leading pharmaceutical company, will become the full-time sponsor of Alex Caffi’s No. 1 Ford Mustang.
“I would like to thank Remedica for the excellent and very important support. I will give my everything to represent Cyprus in the best possible way,” said Tziortzis on Remedica’s support.
With the real season currently postponed due to the COVID-19, Tziortzis is continuing to prepare for his debut season with his participation in the EuroNASCAR Esports Series. From the two races held so far, Tziortzis have successfully advanced to the Main Event both times, securing a 22nd place finish at Brands Hatch Indy and a 25th place finish at Watkins Glen.
